About TheThriftyHabit
Hi, I’m Sarah.
And no, I’m not here because I had to be.
I didn’t start TheThriftyHabit because I was drowning in debt or living paycheck to paycheck. I started it because one day I looked at my bank statement and realized something uncomfortable — I was earning decent money, and somehow it was all just… gone. Every month. Like clockwork.
Not on anything exciting. Not on adventures or experiences I’d remember forever. Just gone. Subscriptions I forgot about. Grocery runs where half the bag ended up in the trash. Impulse buys that felt great for about 45 minutes. The usual.
And then I started questioning everything.
Why do we automatically upgrade to the newest phone? Why does a “good life” apparently require spending every dollar we earn — and then some? Who decided that spending less means living less?
Nobody had a good answer. So I decided to find my own.
What I discovered
I started making small changes. Tracking where my money actually went. Cutting things I didn’t miss. Finding smarter ways to spend on the things I actually cared about.
And something unexpected happened — I felt free.
Not deprived. Not cheap. Not miserable. Free.
Free from the constant pressure to keep up. Free from the anxiety of checking my balance. Free to actually build something — savings, security, options.
That’s when I became obsessed. Not with being cheap, but with being smart. There’s a massive difference, and that difference is what TheThriftyHabit is all about.
What this site is — and what it isn’t
TheThriftyHabit is not about eating ramen every day. It’s not about clipping coupons for three hours to save $2. It’s not about living a sad, restricted life with the lights off.
It’s about spending intentionally. Keeping your money working for you. Building habits that quietly make your financial life better — without making your actual life worse.
I share practical tips on saving money on groceries, cutting household bills, spending smarter, and building habits that stick. Real stuff that actually works, written by someone who lives it — not a bank, not a financial institution, not a corporation trying to sell you something.
Just Sarah. A regular person who got tired of the script and rewrote it.
Why “The Thrifty Habit”?
Because saving money isn’t a one-time thing. It’s not a detox or a challenge or a 30-day plan. It’s a habit — a way of thinking that becomes second nature over time.
And thrifty? Thrifty is not the same as cheap. Cheap is avoiding the dentist to save money. Thrifty is finding a great dentist at half the price. One costs you more in the long run. The other just makes you smarter.
That’s the energy here.
