Record what really happened

Add income, a purchase, or a refund. Future plans don’t count as real money until you log them here.

A transfer to a savings account can be recorded as an expense in the Savings category to track money leaving your spending account. This is a budgeting convention, not an account-balance reconciliation.

How this budget tool works

Expected income is your own forecast. Income received is the sum of income transactions you’ve recorded this month. Neither is imported from a bank.

Monthly allocations are spending limits you choose for categories. In zero-based mode, an unallocated amount of $0 means the entire expected income has been assigned to categories (including Savings, if you choose). That doesn’t mean you’ve spent it.

Actual category spending is the total of expense transactions minus refunds in that category. Recorded net equals logged income minus net spending. A savings transfer recorded under Savings is treated as money leaving the spending account, even though it may still belong to you elsewhere.

Every month maintains its own transactions, income forecast, and category budgets. Copying last month’s plan copies targets only, not previously recorded purchases.

Privacy: Data is stored locally on this device using browser storage. No bank accounts are connected and this calculator doesn’t send your transactions to The Thrifty Habit. Clearing browser storage or using private browsing may erase your work. Back up your data as JSON if you want to preserve it. This tool is for personal planning, not regulated financial advice.
